Fatal Traffic Collision Involving Pedestrian on Basque and Orangethorpe

Fullerton Police Officers were dispatched to the area of South Basque Ave and West Orangethorpe Ave regarding a traffic collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at approximately 6:11 pm.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult male pedestrian in the roadway with traumatic injuries and a white Nissan Kicks nearby. Officers immediately began life-saving measures by performing CPR. The driver of the Nissan remained at the scene of the collision. Fullerton Fire responded and transported the pedestrian to a local trauma hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased several hours later.

Initial investigation indicates that the white Nissan Kicks, driven by a 53-year-old female resident from Buena Park, was traveling westbound on Orangethorpe Ave. The male pedestrian, who was crossing the street in an unknown direction, was not believed to be utilizing a marked crosswalk. The pedestrian crossed the street in front of oncoming westbound traffic, and the Nissan Kicks was unable to yield before ultimately colliding with him. At this time in the investigation, alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be a factor.

The deceased pedestrian’s identity will be released later by the Orange County Coroner’s Office.
