HDR Funds Learn-to-Ride Bicycle Program to Local Elementary School

All Kids Bike, the national nonprofit teaching kindergarten students how to ride bikes in PE class, is activating their All Kids Bike Learn-To-Ride Kindergarten PE Program at Benson Elementary, thanks to a generous donation from engineering firm HDR.

The ceremony will reveal 24 balance-to-pedal conversion bikes and include a first-ride opportunity for the excited kindergarteners. Benson Elementary leadership along with representatives from HDR will deliver a brief presentation prior to the bike unveiling and first ride for the kindergarteners

HDR has provided a grant of $360,000 to All Kids Bike for the 2023-24 school year to provide a Learn-To-Ride curriculum, teacher training, Strider Balance Bikes, pedal-conversion kits, helmets, a teacher instruction bike, and rolling storage racks for elementary schools where their employees live and work.

By teaching kids to ride a bike in school, All Kids Bike is getting as many kids on bikes as possible, as early as possible. The All Kids Bike Kindergarten PE Program boasts an inclusive, proven Learn-to-Ride curriculum that offers every child the opportunity to experience the joy of two wheels.

HDR’s giving focuses on education, healthy communities, and environmental stewardship. This gift brings HDR’s total support of the All Kids Bike Program to over $500,000.

About All Kids Bike
The All Kids Bike Learn-to-Ride Kindergarten PE Program launched in 2018 with a simple mission: to give every child in America the opportunity to learn how to ride a bike in school. The program includes everything needed to teach thousands of students at a school for 7-10 years: teacher training and certification, a fleet of 24 Strider bikes, pedal conversion kits, helmets, an instructional bike and helmet for the teacher, two rolling metal bike storage racks, and access to a resource portal and live support for the life of the program. Supported by the Strider Education Foundation, All Kids Bike Learn-to-Ride Kindergarten PE Programs are active in over 1,300 schools across all 50 states, teaching more than 100,000 kids to ride each year. In 2023, All Kids Bike added an Inclusive Learn-to-Ride Program to empower middle and high school students and adults with developmental disabilities with the life skill of riding a bicycle.
