Unveiling of Colorful Collaborative Mural Celebrating School Community, Culture, and Inclusivity at Fullerton School District’s Raymond Elementary School

Fullerton School District’s Raymond Elementary School proudly unveiled a vibrant mural adorning its media center on May 16, 2024, which serves as a focal point of the school. This mural represents a creative collaboration between a dedicated Raymond parent, who is also a well-known local artist, Carla Roque, who wanted to contribute to the school’s caring community by paying tribute to Raymond’s robust pride and culture while also showcasing the school’s unique Spanish Dual Language Academy. Designed with input from students, teachers, staff, and families, Roque got to work with the help of many students, keeping them connected to this motivational art project and further fostering school pride.

Principal Centeno said, “When you see this mural, we want you to feel love, a sense of belonging, and the knowledge that everyone here is rooting for you.”

Inspired by Roque and the collective contributions of the Raymond community to this project, two Raymond Elementary parents, Laura Manchester and Priscilla Santos, of Las Dos Creative, a photography and film company, wanted to share their skills and contribute to this project by documenting how this mural came together, capturing students’ proud contributions to the mural, and shine a spotlight on the heart behind the project and the Raymond Elementary community.

The video premiered at the mural unveiling event. Another parent is also supporting the project by providing a vinyl copy of the mural to be placed inside the school’s media center.
