Hundreds to March and Rally for Divestment from companies that support genocide in Gaza at CSU Board of Trustees Meeting on May 21, 2024

Hundreds of students and community members will converge at the California State University (CSU) Board of Trustees meeting to call for divestment from entities committing genocide in Gaza.

WHO: Hundreds of California State University students, alumni, faculty, and staff from campuses across California

WHAT: March and rally at CSU Board of Trustees Meeting

WHEN: Tuesday, May 21, 10 A.M.

WHERE: Rally begins at 10 A.M. at Lincoln Park, 101 Pacific Avenue, Long Beach. Students will march to CSU Board of Trustees meeting at the CSU Chancellor’s Office, 401 Golden Shore, Long Beach, CA 90802

WHY: Students are demanding that the CSU system:

  1. Disclose all investments
  2. Divest from entities that are complicit in or plausibly committing genocide, ethnic cleansing, and/or human rights violations
  3. Defend student activism
  4. Declare publicly that Israel is engaging in genocide, ethnic cleansing, and settler-colonialism in Palestine in violation of international law.

** Designated student media liaisons will be available for interviews from 11:30 A.M. to 1:20 P.M.**

This protest comes after thousands of students set up encampments at eleven CSU campuses, demanding their universities divest from the genocide of Palestinians.

Farah Ard’Lana, a Palestinian student, said, “Being a part of the student intifada is an honor. No student wants their tuition to ever go towards the ethnic cleansing or genocide of anyone. Especially when you are Palestinian, you are forced into a terrible position of being complicit in the genocide of your own people. To be able to achieve full divestment at Sacramento State with actual policy change feels like one win in a pot of many more yet to come. We believe that it is the youth that will continue to make radical change and continue to call out the hypocrisy and corruption of the Empire.”

We urge both Chancellor Garcia and the Board of Trustees to listen to, negotiate, and work with their students and recognize their demands through action and policy change. Should they find that they are

unable to do this, we call for them to immediately resign from their positions. We reiterate the demand for all individuals who serve in these positions to center all students, especially those who are the most

vulnerable during the ongoing genocide in Palestine, particularly Palestinian, Arab, and Muslim students.

  1. Requested correction in the title: we are not rallying for divestment “from Gaza” but rather “from companies that support genocide in Gaza”

  2. There is no genocide. Using that word is nothing more than provocative dishonesty and a complete denial of the facts related to the initial Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. Antisemitism is alive and well in Fullerton!

    • You and others like you do a disservice to the real meaning of antisemitism. You play the card anytime someone is critical of Israel or someone who is Jewish. You overplay it so much it’s lost some of its meaning and that’s a real shame for those who experience real antisemitism. It’s also a shame you don’t understand the meaning of genocide.

      • You need to educate yourself on the definition of genocide. The IDF is responding to a direct and unprovoked invasion and attack by Hamas on Israel. There is no systematic plan to destroy all Palestinians. Thus, no genocide. What the Nazis did to the Jewish People was truly genocide. Fact! But, facts are not important to the warped and twisted Progressives minds today and apparently, neither is history.

Even Bill Maher, a staunch and devote liberal, says you and people like you are full of it!

        • Oscar, I am not a Progressive and I hope my mind isn’t warped and twisted. I don’t think you really know whether or not there is a plan to destroy all Palestinians, just as I don’t know that there is.

The actions of Israel Army are quite congruent with those of militant Zionism, and their actions in Gaza are, at the very least, congruent with the idea of ethnic cleansing – one way or another. It seems abundantly clear that the aim of Netanyahu is to level Gaza – with American bombs. If civilians get in the way, who cares? And that makes them just as bad as Hamas – worse, actually since we are constantly informed that Israel is a bastion of Western civilization, surrounded by untermenschen.

Let me pose a hypothetical (so I don’t expect a response). What if Israeli intelligence knew of the civilian attacks by Hamas ahead of time and let them occur? Who, at this point is the chief beneficiary of this catastrophe? Qui bono? Benjamin Netanyahu, that’s who.
