Dear Fullerton Observer,
My name is Paul Cabrera. I am 20 years old, born and raised in Fullerton, California, and I recently graduated from Fullerton College on May 25th, 2024, with three associate degrees through the Promise Program. As a proud Fullerton High School and Fullerton College graduate, I am excited to share my educational journey with you and your readers.
As I was browsing through recent articles in the Fullerton Observer, I couldn’t help but notice the commendable coverage of Fullerton High School’s achievements. It’s truly heartening to see the successes of our local students celebrated. However, I also believe that stories from the college level, such as mine, can offer valuable insights and inspiration to our community.
My journey into higher education began at Fullerton High School, where I seized the opportunity to enroll in dual enrollment courses. These early college-level experiences laid the foundation for my academic pursuits and instilled a passion for learning. The Promise Program, which provides two years of free tuition to new college students, further facilitated my educational journey, allowing me to pursue my studies without financial burden.
During my two years at Fullerton College, I dedicated myself to academic excellence and personal growth. I am proud to have earned three associate degrees: one in Anthropology, another in Social Sciences, and the third in Social Behavior and Self-Development. These degrees equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of human societies, cultures, and behaviors and honed my critical thinking skills.
Beyond the classroom, I engaged in various extracurricular activities that enriched my college experience. Whether representing the college on the Tennis team or immersing myself in the German Club, I found a vibrant and supportive community that nurtured my academic and personal development.
One of the highlights of my college journey was studying abroad in Dublin, Ireland, through the Fullerton College Study Abroad program. This transformative experience broadened my horizons, challenged me to step out of my comfort zone, and deepened my appreciation for cultural diversity.
I am deeply grateful for the guidance and support I received from Fullerton College’s faculty, staff, and counselors. Their unwavering commitment to student success played an instrumental role in shaping my academic trajectory and preparing me for the next chapter of my education. Along with my parents, family, and friends, who have been so supportive of me.
As I embark on the next phase of my academic journey, I will be transferring to Biola University this fall semester. I will carry with me the invaluable lessons and memories from my time at Fullerton College. I am eager to contribute to my new academic community and continue positively impacting our community.
My educational journey, from Fullerton High School to Fullerton College and now to Biola University, exemplifies the transformative power of education and the unwavering support of our Fullerton community. I would be honored if you could consider sharing my story in the Fullerton Observer. By highlighting the successes and achievements of local college students, I hope to inspire others in our community to pursue their academic aspirations with determination and resilience.
Warm regards, Paul Cabrera
