By wheel and by foot, a rush of rainbow joy parades down Wilshire Avenue in celebration of Pride month.
On Saturday, June 1st, the Fullerton Museum Center hosted its 3rd Annual Pride Fest.
Pride month, beginning on the first day of June celebrates the LGBTQ+ community. The term “gay pride” was drafted by activist Craig Schoonmaker. Having previously debated on using the term “gay power,” Schoonmaker expressed that “there’s very little chance for people in the world to have power,” but “anyone can have pride in themselves.”
The holiday originated from the Stonewall Uprising, a series of riots that followed the police raid of the Stonewall Inn, a gay club in New York, on June 28, 1969. Following Stonewall, the Eastern Regional Conference of Homophile Organizations (ERCHO) gathered and decided that the anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising would become an annual event to commemorate the Christopher Street demonstrations. Christopher Street is home to the Stonewall Inn, the point of origin for the Stonewall Uprising. ERCHO also encouraged the gathering of other Homophile organizations to join the demonstration, encouraging Chicago and Los Angeles to join New York in pride marches and parades on June 28, 1970. The celebration soon transformed into an annual week-long celebration and is now a yearly month-long holiday after President Bill Clinton officially declared June as “Gay & Lesbian Pride Month” in 1999, and President Barack Obama followed the declaration with the new designation of “LGBT Pride Month” in 2016.
With a rainbow pride flag flying over the Fullerton City Hall and pride events taking place all across the city, Fullerton embraces pride and acceptance wholeheartedly.

So many pictures of cops out here. Pride is a memory of the Stonewall Riots, which happened because of the NYPD brutalizing the queer community in NY. Having cops at Pride – and especially Zahra and others taking pictures with cops – is a clear invitation in of those who caused the oppression that necessitates Pride.
Zahra must have had somebody following him around taking his picture – over and over and over again.
The Stonewall myth is a lie. You’re a parrot and should maybe put the slightest effort into finding the truth instead of simply repeating what you heard.
Amy – I do see some photos with cops (among the many more with no cops) – but see those photos as showing how far we have come from the terror of Stonewall days.
Amy – I get where you are coming from and I can understand the spirit of what you are saying – but in this case, the cops acted as corkers for the parade, stopping traffic and allowing the route to proceed safely down Wilshire.
I’d like to view Pride in fully positive terms instead focusing on negative aspects. I respect your point about not forgetting the past but I think that prioritizing the negative would oppose the spirit of community that we all celebrated at the Pride Parade.
There was a preacher there, I didn’t see him in the photos. He was coming against that wicked event that is Against God and his commandments. Thank God for a preacher standing for the truth of God’s word and speaking on that sin.
I saw that young man too. He was calling out to gay people through a megaphone, trying very hard to get them to pay attention to him as he walked up and down the street.
No such thing as being proud (pride) of lgbtq anything. If an animal does it , it’s not prideful , it’s unnatural and you know it. That’s how nature would go extinct. Going lower than animals is not a good idea. The idolaters nor the fornicators who celebrate their wicked ways of being unnatural with the same sex, will get to Heaven. Everyone participating in this kind of conduct will surely go to 🔥. Repent it’s not too late. Societies don’t make it this way. Sodom and Gomorrah was Real.
God made everything in six days about six thousand years ago during Creation week and no such thing as evolution or millions and billions of years ago. Bring people to Christ, that’s your purpose. ✝️
The central themes of the Christian Bible are that God loves everyone and has reconciled all through Jesus Christ, including LGBTQ individuals. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) “The world” means EVERYONE, including LGBTQ+ people.
Very impressive that RD, armed with the knowledge that creation is 6,000 years old, has anointed himself Judge of the Universe. People at Pride Fest, some wearing shirts that read “Hugs welcome” and similar things, showed restraint in tolerating the guy pacing Wilshire like a stalker and screaming threats into a megaphone.
Harvey Milk was a … (The web Editor has deleted this due to slander). Celebrating him is utterly insane.
The Stonewall myth is also a complete lie. I have a feeling if one were to look up the guy who came up with “gay pride” one would find sketchy behavior as well.
