The California Latino Legislative Caucus announced on July 31 that it endorses Vice President Kamala Harris for President of the United States.
“As fellow Californians, we have proudly watched Vice President Kamala Harris work beside President Joe Biden over the past three and a half years,” said Latino Caucus Chair, Assemblymember Sabrina Cervantes (D-Riverside). “It is with great pride but also great urgency that the Latino Caucus endorses Vice President Harris for President of the United States. The daughter of immigrants and the City of Oakland, Vice President Harris has bravely broken through glass ceilings throughout her career, and the Latino Caucus is excited to mobilize our community to support her campaign for the presidency.”
“I’m proud to support Vice President Kamala Harris as our next President of the United States. Her extensive experience and commitment to public service make her the ideal candidate to lead meaningful change in our communities nationwide. It’s time to break the glass ceiling once more and elect our first female President to strengthen our future and send a resounding message of unity that will echo through history,” said Latino Caucus Vice Chair, Senator Lena Gonzalez (D-Long Beach).
California’s Latino community has played a critical role in shaping California’s cultural, economic, and social landscape. With 8.5 million eligible Latino voters in the state of California – the single-largest Latino voting population in the nation – the support of Latinos in California and nationwide will be critical in the upcoming election. The success of California and our country is inextricably linked to the success of our vast and diverse Latino communities, and especially in California, where nearly 16 million Latinos reside.
“I want to express our appreciation for the outstanding leadership displayed by Joe Biden during his tenure as the President of the United States,” continued Chair Cervantes. “During his time in office, President Biden and his administration have made transformational investments in our nation’s infrastructure, spearheaded our nation’s resurgence from the COVID-19 pandemic, and uplifted Latino working-class families throughout our country.
“Our Latino communities and our nation cannot afford to return to the Trump-era politics of discord and division. Latino issues are American issues, and we are confident that Vice President Harris will pursue a forward-looking agenda that will uplift Latinos, not only by ensuring Latino representation in the federal government but also by fighting for a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants by passing immigration reform legislation,” said Chair Cervantes. “We are committed to working with Vice President Harris to ensure issues affecting Latinos are prioritized in this presidential campaign, and as the future 47th President of the United States. En la unión está la fuerza.”
