Orange County Legislators Advocate for Federal Support of Southern California Veterans Cemetery

Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva (D-Fullerton) authored a letter with the support of the Orange County Legislative Delegation urging federal support for the Southern California Veterans Cemetery at Gypsum Canyon in Anaheim Hills on August 20, 2024. In a letter to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the delegation expressed their support for the Veterans Cemetery Grants Program Pre-application submitted by the California Department of Veterans Affairs.

“Our veterans have sacrificed so much to defend our freedom and democracy, and Orange County stands united in support of Gypsum Canyon,” the letter stated. “This much-needed and long-awaited cemetery will serve as a dignified final resting place for those courageous individuals who served in our armed forces.”

The letter also highlighted the comprehensive support and substantial funding for the project: “The Gypsum Canyon site has garnered backing from all 34 cities within the county, enjoys bipartisan support from our state and federal delegation members, and is endorsed by public safety and labor organizations, 140 local elected officials, and over 100 veterans’ organizations.”
