
As the 2024 high school football season kicks off, the thrill of Friday night lights is undeniable. On August 23, the Sunny Hills Varsity football team hosted a non-league matchup against Troy High School, drawing a packed crowd with fans eagerly filling the stands on both sides.
Troy cruised to a 38-6 victory over Sunny Hills. Senior quarterback Rudy Alcala threw for 252 yards and multiple touchdowns, while Ethan Mundt ran for 110 yards and added a touchdown. The University of Washington Commit Vander Ploog hauled 155 receiving yards and scored twice. Caleb Huss also made a significant impact with a 73-yard touchdown, and Mundt contributed another touchdown. Defensively, Kellen Watts, Trent Palmer, and Andrew Green each intercepted a pass, helping Troy to a decisive win.
The Troy High School Warriors will go up against the Claremont Wolfpack in a non-league matchup this Friday, August 30. Troy aims to build on its 1-0 record, while the Wolfpack come into the game with a 1-0 record following their 19-14 non-league win against Diamond Ranch (Pomona, CA).
Sunny Hills scored in the second quarter when junior quarterback Madden Leasau delivered a 70-yard touchdown pass to senior William Brown. The Lancers are preparing to face Buena Park (Buena Park, CA). The Coyotes, who also have a 0-1 record, are coming off a 38-0 defeat to Cerritos (Cerritos, CA) in their previous non-league game.
As the season progresses with promising matchups on the horizon, both Troy and Sunny Hills will look to build on their experiences and leave their mark. Fans can expect more thrilling Friday night football action as the 2024 season continues.
