Hundreds Gathered to Celebrate Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day

A Night to Remember!

The Pakistani-American community of Fullerton came together on August 14, 2024, at the Hunt Library to mark Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day. The evening, organized by Friends of Pakistan (FOP), included a flag-hoisting ceremony conducted by the Consul General of Pakistan, Asim Ali Khan. Community leaders such as FOP Chairman Arif Mansuri and FOP President Jamal Khwaja took to the stage to share their thoughts on the significance of Independence Day.

The FOP presented awards to several Pakistani Americans for their exceptional contributions. The recipients included Fareed and Ayesha Jafery, Firoze and Dr. Yasmin Qasim, Altaf and Nasreen Godil, and Naim and Anjum Siddiqui, who were recognized for their dedication, service, and leadership within the community. Additionally, Arif Mansuri, the Chairman of Friends of Pakistan and Fullerton Planning Commissioner, along with Consul General of Pakistan members Jamal Khawaja and Hon. Asim Ali Khan, received friendship awards from Fullerton City Councilmember Dr. Ahmad Zahra.

Cultural performances included a national song by children, a fashion show showcasing Pakistani clothing, and a concert by famous Pakistani singer Ali Haider. Bundoo Khan, a Pakistani BBQ restaurant on Nutwood Ave, catered the entire event.

The event saw an unexpectedly impressive turnout, with hundreds of people coming together to celebrate.
