Here are the latest updates on Walk on Wilshire:

Thank you for joining more than 1,600 people in signing the Petition to Save Walk on Wilshire! In just 15 days, Fullerton City Council will vote to either keep Walk on Wilshire or shut it down forever.

Tell City Council: Don’t Shut Down Walk on Wilshire: Fullerton City Council will be taking an official vote on Walk on Wilshire on Tuesday, October 15, and it is critical that the public show up to tell our elected officials that we want WoW to stay!

Attending council meetings and providing public comments are the most effective ways to show your support for walkable, family-friendly spaces in our city. Anyone can give public comment, including residents, students, visitors, workers, and local business owners. New to public comment? Check out our helpful guide here.

The Council meeting begins at 5:30pm, and we’ll be meeting outside City Hall at 5pm to gather — we encourage everyone to wear green and bring signs!

Say NO to False Compromise: Concerningly, multiple Councilmembers have indicated that they are considering reopening Wilshire Ave to cars, only closing the road for pedestrians seasonally or during special events. This “compromise” proposal would eliminate Walk on Wilshire’s pedestrian zone for most of the year, and may lead restaurants to scale back outdoor dining spaces considerably.

Eliminating Walk on Wilshire except for select time periods would also force the City to reverse the infrastructure it has already invested in, saddling Fullerton with recurring logistical costs amidst a looming $9 million annual budget deficit. Like nearly all residents we’ve spoken to, Save WoW supports the permanent continuation of Walk on Wilshire. We also hope to see the City make meaningful improvements like furniture, shade structures, art displays, and/or community events to make WoW an even more welcoming public space.

Fullerton Downtown

Hop out of your car or ride in on the train and take in the Courtyard of the Historic Visa del Sol, a converted historical hotel, where you can enjoy breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner. Then take a stroll down the Walk on Wilshire outdoor pedestrian zone for a wide array of
opportunities. Popular downtown events such as First Night and the Fourth of July keep the area
popping.

Walk on Wilshire is the Best of Orange County! Congratulations to Downtown Fullerton for placing in OC Register’s 2024 “Best of OC” Awards for the second year, with a special shoutout specifically to the Walk on Wilshire outdoor pedestrian zone.

Please continue to share the petition and encourage your neighbors and friends to attend the October 15 meeting. We’re hoping to get up to 2,000 signatures before the important vote.
