  1. Our Federal government has been spending like drunken sailors, both Republicans and Democrats share the blame, for decades. Spending needs to be reined in or our nation will not survive. It is not a quick fix. A family can’t spend like that, neither can a state nor a nation. Anyone who moans about major changes and alterations of habitual Fed spending is not being realistic. We spend much more than other countries on education and our students are way down in the standings for basic reading, math and science scores, embarrassing. Those are the facts of life. Finances and the practice of, require self-control and common sense in the long term. There is no need to wail and whine. The runaway train must be slowed. The process has begun. I, for one, am thankful.

  2. Martin – I do agree with you that our government spends way too much on war. And the unaccountable Pentagon budget always bothers me – remember the $10,000 toilet? Unfortunately Musk isn’t going after that. Instead he seems to be copying financial records of all Americans (IRS, Social Security, medical, etc) – Got to wonder what he plans to do with all that personal data. I wish this administration and the whole Project 2025 thing was just “embarrassing” – I definitely feel some fear about what is going on. I am not a Republican or a Democrat but I do see that the Republicans are almost all going along with everything without question. And I think it is very appropriate to ask the questions. The tax cuts for the rich in the new budget will add $3 trillion to the national debt. Does not seem a good idea.

    • Sharon-

I am not sure if your parents began the newspaper or your grandparents. If I recall correctly, I am certain there is some connection. My point; they contributed to the community, an admirable feat, with real paper and lots of walking and physically moving to gather information in the days of ink and presses.

Our society is not improving. I believe it is possibly devolving, an unpleasant thought.

For you to believe that Elon cares about your and my financial records, and would copy them for use, is simply preposterous. It is a bizarre manner in which to voice your disapproval of turning over a new leaf. America is merely undergoing a long overdue housecleaning. As neither a Republican or Democrat I would think you might cheer patriotically or choose to hold your nose for a few months as I will. Things will work out.

  3. Martin – thanks for acknowledging my dear parents and their contributions – that’s sweet! I hope you are right about what’s going on – and it will all blow over.
Tech companies want our data for some reason and he is collecting it – so do I trust Elon? Nope. Do I trust Trump and his project 2025 – Nope. I can see they are in it for what they can squeeze out of it for themselves.
