Tracking Executive Orders & Lawsuits Filed Against Trump/Vance/Musk Administration

Everything seems to be moving so fast it can be hard to keep up. Two websites do an excellent job of that by tracking the 75 lawsuits filed (so far) against the Trump/Vance/Musk Administration & the 98 Executive Orders signed by the president.

•Just Security’s Litigation Tracker

75 lawsuits have been filed against the Trump/Vance/Musk Administration so far in 2025.
Below are some of the lawsuits filed by Public Citizen and ACLU.
See the full list of filings by various groups by visiting Litigation Tracker at Just Security’s website at:

Public Citizen Lawsuits

•Jan 20: Public Citizen filed a lawsuit challenging DOGE (run by Elon Musk) for operating in secrecy and in violation of the Federal Advisory Committee Act (as of Feb. 17 a hearing on the case has not been scheduled).

•Feb 3: After DOGE infiltrated a payment system at the US Treasury Dept. Public Citizen filed a lawsuit demanding halt of the illegal invasion of the private data of millions of Americans.

•Feb 5: Public Citizen filled a restraining order, granted by the judge on Feb 6, which restricts two Musk-connected men housed at the Treasury from modifying or copying the database, prohibiting them from sharing any information with Musk or anyone else outside the department, and preventing Musk or any other DOGE connected people from accessing the sensitive Treasury data while the lawsuit proceeds to next stage. A hearing is set for February 24. Visit https://www.citizen.org/ for updates.

•Feb 7: Public Citizen filed a lawsuit to block DOGE access to Department of Education databases including confidential financial information of thousands of student loan applicants and their families. On Feb 14 the judge held an hour long hearing on the motion for temporary restraining order. The judge’s ruling is pending.

•Feb 10: Public Citizen filed a lawsuit on behalf of two groups that receive grants from USAID and the State Department to do humanitarian work. The Court granted a temporary restraining order on Feb 13 requiring resumption of foreign assistance funding for the two clients and other groups affected as the case proceeds. Next, Public Citizen will ask that the order be made permanent.

•Feb 13: Public Citizen filed a lawsuit to block the Trump Administration from dismantling the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. (According to CFPB records since 2012 the agency has returned $19.7 billion to consumers defrauded by various banks and financial institutions – and taken over 350 enforcement actions against companies that broke the law.) The judge entered an order blocking any destruction of records, firing of people, or transfer of funding while she considers the case. The next hearing is March 3.

American Civil Liberties Union Action & Lawsuits

•Feb 13: A Federal judge issued a nationwide temporary restraining order on Feb. 13 blocking Trump’s executive order targeting medical care for transgender youth. The clients in the lawsuit PFLAG v. Trump – are transgender young adults and families who joined PFLAG National and GLMA in the ACLU filing of a legal challenge on Feb 4 to Trump’s Jan 20 order requiring discrimination against transgender people and his Jan 28 order directing federal agencies to withhold funds from medical providers and institutions that provide gender affirming medical treatment for people under 19. The case is ongoing.

•Feb 12: The ACLU, Center for Constitutional Rights, International Refugee. Assistance Project sued the Trump/Vance administration for lack of access to over 50 immigrants transferred from the US to detention at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba under Trump’s Jan 29 memorandum. The lawsuit is on behalf of several plaintiffs including the sister of one Guantanamo detainee and four legal service providers – Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center, Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services, American Gateways, and Americans for Immigrant Justice – all seeking to provide legal counsel and family access to the detainees. So far the Trump administration has provided little to no information but has announced the goal of sending thirty thousand immigrants to the notorious prison. The first flights began Feb 4. The case is ongoing.

•Feb 11: An explainer article on the dangers of Trump’s rollback of AI protections is available on the ACLU website at https://www.aclu.org/news/privacy-technology/trumps-efforts-to-dismantle-ai-protections-explained
“In the absence of strong guardrails, these tools are creating real world harms when companies and government use them to help decide who gets a job, who goes to jail, who gets a loan, and a host of other sensitive decisions’” including threats to civil rights or safety. “The Trump administration is primed to accelerate AI’s development and deployment without critical guardrails to protect people from harm,” reads the article which points out Trump’s revoking of existing safety measures.

•Feb 10: A New Hampshire federal court issued a preliminary injunction blocking Trump’s Jan. 20 executive order seeking to strip citizenship from some babies born in the US. The lawsuit was filed by the ACLU and Asian Law Caucus, State Democracy Defenders Fund, Legal Defense Fund on behalf of Indonesian Community Support, LULAC, and Make the Road New York.

Feb 7: ACLU filed Freedom of Information of Information Act requests with over 40 Federal agencies seeking transparency about the Department of Government Efficiency’s secretive efforts to access and analyze American’s sensitive personnel information. The ACLU also sent letters calling on Congress to fulfill its role in oversight of this executive overreach and DOGE’s unchecked access to American’s data.” The concern is that DOGE has gained access to. Databases including Treasury and Health & Human Services systems that contain information on individuals’ finances, health records, and social security data. This creates opportunity for an unimaginable data breach or hack endangering millions of Americans.
“Reports that data accessed by DOGE is being housed on non-governmental servers or fed into third-party AI raises concerns that the President and DOGE are not complying with their legal obligations to protect our data,” read part of the letter sent to Congress urging action to rein in the overreach by the executive branch.
