Community Invited to Interfaith Iftar on Wednesday March 26

In the spirit of community and interfaith harmony, The Fullerton Muslim Community Center (FMCC) extends a warm invitation to individuals of all faiths to join their Interfaith Iftar on Wednesday, March 26. This event aims to promote mutual understanding and strengthen the bonds within the diverse Fullerton community. Attendees will have the opportunity to share a meal, engage in meaningful conversations, and learn more about the significance of Ramadan and the practice of fasting in Islam.

FMCC, originally established by the Cham Refugee Community, has grown into a vibrant congregation representing diverse backgrounds from the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and beyond. Managed by the Cham Muslims of Fullerton (CMF), a California Nonprofit Religious Organization, FMCC is dedicated to fostering an environment of empowerment, solidarity, and inclusion for all, regardless of race, color, or religion.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is a sacred period observed by Muslims worldwide. It is a time for fasting from dawn to sunset, prayer, reflection, and community engagement. Fasting during Ramadan serves as an act of worship, self-restraint, and empathy towards those less fortunate. The daily fast is traditionally broken at sunset with a meal called “iftar,” often starting with dates, following the tradition of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

The act of fasting during Ramadan is intended to draw Muslims closer to God through self-control, compassion, and reflection. It teaches self-discipline, self-control, sacrifice, and empathy for those who are less fortunate, encouraging actions of generosity and compulsory charity (zakat).

Iftar, the meal to break the fast, holds significant importance as it brings families and communities together, fostering a sense of unity and gratitude. Social gatherings are frequent at iftar, with traditional dishes often highlighted, and it serves as an opportunity for communal bonding and spiritual reflection.

FMCC’s mission is to facilitate the practice, education, and dissemination of information about Islam. The center strives to provide educational, religious, charitable, recreational facilities, and family-oriented activities of the highest possible quality for members of both the Muslim and non-Muslim public community alike. By hosting events like the Interfaith Iftar, FMCC continues to uphold its commitment to fostering future leaders and creating an environment where everyone feels empowered and included.

The Interfaith Iftar will be held at FMCC, located at 515 W Valencia Dr, Unit H, Fullerton, CA 92832.
