The Maverick Theater presents Fellowship! The Musical, a musical parody of “The Fellowship of the Ring.” Written by Kelly Holden-Bashar and Joel McCrary with music by Allen Simpson, the production is directed by Brian Newell (“Santa Claus Conquers the Martians,” “The Rocky Horror Show,” and “Chicago”).
One ring to make them sing! What else would happen when you bring together Hobbits, Wizards, and Elves? This over-the-top retelling of J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel will delight avid fans and those unfamiliar with Lord of the Rings. Fellowship! The Musical features 12 original songs performed by an epic cast of nine actors. With a budget that could barely afford Gandalf’s pipe, the Maverick promises the actors will be clothed and the music will be jolly. One doesn’t simply walk into Mordor you’ve gotta sing and dance!
For its premiere in 2005, Fellowship! won Musical of the Year and Best Comedy Ensemble at the LA Weekly Awards. The show was recognized by many papers in and around the L.A. area with such honors as Critic’s Pick, Best Bet, and Pick of the Week.
Fellowship! The Musical opens April 4th and runs through May 17th. Performances are Fridays & Saturdays at 8 pm, and Sundays at 6 pm. General Admission Seats – $39, Students with an ID – $21.50. Tickets may be purchased online at www.mavericktheater.com or by calling 714-526-7070. The Maverick Theater is located at 110 E. Walnut, Fullerton, CA 92832, across from the Amtrak station in historic Downtown Fullerton.
