In an effort to promote safety and prevent firearm-related accidents, Orange County has unveiled the OC Free Gun Lock Program, providing free firearm locks to residents. This initiative aims to help prevent unauthorized access to firearms, making homes and communities safer for all.
The program is available to all Orange County residents, with a special focus on households in the Fourth District, where requests will be prioritized. Residents can conveniently request free gun locks through an online form accessible at d4.ocgov.com/FreeGunLocks. Once requested, the locks will be mailed directly to participants’ homes.
Each package includes a video tutorial on safe firearm storage practices and essential information about California’s evolving gun laws, including the recently enacted SB 53, which mandates secure storage for all firearms starting in 2026. This educational component underscores the importance of responsible firearm ownership and safety.
