Every Monday, a determined group known as Indivisible CA-45 gathers to protest against the Trump Administration and its initiatives, including Project 2025. This grassroots organization, rooted in Fullerton, has been a prominent player in local progressive activism since its inception in 2017.
According to Deborah Langenbacher, PhD, Founding member of Indivisible in Fullerton, IndivisibleCA45 was originally formed in response to Donald Trump’s first presidency in California’s 39th congressional district, Indivisible CA-45 quickly grew from a small assembly to a movement with over 1,000 members. Their initial objective was to unseat Congressman Ed Royce, a goal achieved with the election of Democrat Gil Cisneros in 2018, thanks in part to the group’s persistent efforts, which included regular visits to Royce’s office.
The political landscape shifted dramatically after the 2020 election and subsequent redistricting, transforming California’s 39th district into the newly designated 45th district. This change resulted in the loss of areas such as Diamond Bar and Chino Hills while adding communities like Cypress and Hawaiian Gardens. Michelle Steel took office as the district’s representative. However, she soon faced a formidable challenge from Derek Tran, a candidate backed by Indivisible CA-45, who won a closely watched election in 2024.
Following the 2024 election, the group’s focus has sharpened, particularly towards addressing the multifaceted issues outlined in Project 2025. Indivisible CA-45 has committed to enhancing community engagement, supporting marginalized populations—including immigrants—and advocating for independent journalism. Their activism agenda spans crucial areas such as immigration reform, LGBTQ+ rights, services for children and individuals with disabilities, and initiatives to combat racism.
In a strategic meeting held in January 2025, members outlined their priorities for local influence, stressing the need to protect public benefits like Social Security, Medicaid/Medicare, education systems, and libraries. Indivisible CA-45 is also dedicated to fostering a constructive relationship with Congressman Derek Tran and his staff. Their strategy involves closely monitoring his legislative votes, requesting regular meetings and town halls, and maintaining open lines of communication through phone calls and emails.
By collaborating with other organizations aligned with their values, Indivisible CA-45 aims to bolster its efforts in defending democratic principles and addressing pressing issues that impact communities.

You don’t have to be a member of Indivisible to join the every Monday protest I am not a member but I am grateful they started the demonstration which I participate in because what is happening in our country is destroying our democracy and has dire consequences for the world. Immigrants, woke people, trans people, news agencies, universities , etc are not the reason prices are high, rents are high, wages are low, climate change threatens the planet , we don’t have affordable healthcare – etc – those conditions are caused by the very rich and corporations not paying their fair share. We must come together and pressure our politicians and get out on the streets and stand up and say No while that is still a possibility. Don’t wait until they come for you …take action now.
