Correa Votes Against GOP Budget Plan and Advocates for Orange County Taxpayers

Representative Lou Correa (CA-46) has once again cast his vote against a Republican budget proposal that he argues would jeopardize the essential healthcare benefits of Orange County taxpayers, children, and seniors. His decision comes as the House reconsiders a budget resolution that has raised significant concerns among Democrats and advocates for social programs.

“The House voted this week on a Republican budget plan that threatens to slash Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act,” Correa stated. “I opposed a similar version before, and I stand by my decision today—because I cannot in good conscience put at risk the hundreds of thousands of hardworking American taxpayers in Orange County who rely on these programs to survive.”

Correa further criticized the accompanying rule that passed overnight, which he described as undermining Congress’s constitutional responsibilities. “This legislation included restrictions on the House’s ability to overturn the President’s sweeping tariffs. This is yet another instance of Congress abdicating its responsibility and handing power directly to the President,” he concluded. “That’s why I voted ‘no’ on this rule and on this flawed budget resolution.”

In addition to his vote, Correa is among six prominent House Democrats co-authoring The Hands Off Medicaid and SNAP Act. This legislation aims to halt drastic cuts to Medicaid and food assistance programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) proposed in the Republican budget. The act seeks to safeguard families from potential benefit cuts and the removal of individuals from Medicaid and SNAP by preventing the GOP majority from exploiting the reconciliation process.
