Each year in May or June, the Fullerton Airport opens its doors to thousands of local visitors on Airport Day. Fullerton takes pride in its rich airport history, which dates back to its founding in 1928.
This year, Airport Day will take place on Saturday, May 31, from 10 am to 3 pm at the Fullerton Municipal Airport, located at 4011 West Commonwealth Avenue. Parking is available in the fenced area just west of the field entrance and the newly renovated administration building.
The event is open to the public, allowing hundreds of visitors to experience a wide array of helicopters, warbirds, and classic vintage planes on display. Airport Day offers a unique opportunity for the public to engage with aviation up close and personal.
The event showcases the important role the airport plays in the community, featuring static and interactive displays, many different planes, a model-building event, and representation from Fullerton’s police, fire, public works, and other city departments. Observing, photographing, and often speaking directly with individuals connected to these exciting vehicles makes this an unforgettable annual event—all at no charge.
In addition to the free exhibits, there are also paid opportunities such as airplane rides offered by the 99s, a flight organization of women pilots, and helicopter rides provided by Hanger 21. Attendees can also enjoy food from various food trucks and meals at the Wings Café.
The airport is home to the Orange County Fire Authority’s water drop helicopters, as well as the operational center for three California Highway Patrol (CHP) helicopters and a fixed-wing unit that supports the region. It also serves as the operational center for the Civil Air Patrol, which includes a training facility for young individuals interested in becoming future members using flight training simulators. Other operations at the airport include the Medivac helicopter medical flight operations center, and it houses Anaheim’s Angel One helicopter, which serves the Anaheim area and surrounding police agencies under mutual aid agreements, providing coverage to residents of Anaheim and the broader Orange County area.
Visiting this event promises to be a memorable day for the entire family.
