A tragic traffic collision late Saturday night resulted in the death of a motorcyclist after a Harley Davidson collided with a recreational trailer near the intersection of N. Euclid St. and W. Bastanchury Rd.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene around midnight, where they found the motorcyclist, an adult male, with severe injuries lying on the ground next to a heavily damaged 1993 Harley Davidson motorcycle. Despite the efforts of firefighters from the Fullerton Fire Department, the rider was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the incident began when a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe, towing a 1996 Prowler recreational trailer, experienced a mechanical failure while heading eastbound on W. Bastanchury Rd. The vehicle came to a stop in the center median. An attempt to reverse the Tahoe by another adult male caused the trailer to jack-knife, extending into both westbound lanes of traffic.
The motorcyclist, who had been traveling westbound from N. Euclid St., collided with the trailer as it obstructed the roadway. Both the female driver of the Tahoe and the male who attempted to reverse the vehicle were arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. Investigators have not yet determined if drugs or alcohol played a role in the motorcyclist’s operation of the vehicle.
Authorities are working to identify the deceased rider, with updates expected from the Orange County Coroner’s Office.
