A Fullerton Resident’s Open Letter to Councilmember Dunlap

Councilmember Dunlap,

At the first meeting discussing a potential charter city, you defended the proposal by stating:
“I think there’s a lot of people who really have no vision for our city.”

You echoed a similar sentiment last night.
I disagree. Fullerton residents do have a vision. And I want to share mine.

I see a city council that doesn’t fight with each other but fights for us.

I see a council that celebrates consistent civic engagement, not mocks it.

I see a council that explains its votes openly, not post-hoc rationalizes them or hides behind vague talking points.

I see a council that recuses itself from votes involving major political donors, even if it’s been thirteen months since the contribution.

I see a council that welcomes free expression, not one that censors its members or bans newspapers.

I see a city writing its charter 10 or 15 years from now with a council that’s earned that trust.

You say we don’t have a vision.
But every time we show up, every time we speak, we are sharing one.

Please start listening.

  1. Totally agree with what is said here. Also very disturbing that those few in favor of charter city status including council members Dunlap, Jung and Valencia ignored the $100,000 cost of hiring a consultant and can not make one real world example of what local control “ actually is. Something else is going on here.
