A proposed three-story condominium project at the intersection of Harbor Blvd and Hermosa Dr has sparked significant concern among local residents, prompting a community meeting set for June 24 at 5:30 PM. The meeting will take place at the Fullerton Community Center, located at 340 West Commonwealth Avenue, Classroom 2, and is intended to provide a forum for discussion with the developer.
The development plan includes 32 units, predominantly featuring 25 three-bedroom apartments. Residents are worried that such high-density housing will disrupt the character of their predominantly single-story neighborhood. Many community members are advocating for a more balanced approach to housing density, expressing they are not against new developments but seek projects that align more closely with the surrounding area’s scale.
A major point of contention is the developer’s intent to utilize the “Builders Remedy,” a provision that allows projects to bypass certain state regulations. This has raised further alarm among residents, who feel that it diminishes their ability to influence planning decisions in their community.
In an effort to voice their concerns, local residents have collected 166 signatures on petitions urging the city to reconsider the size of the development. This petition was formally presented to the city clerk during the city council meeting on May 6, highlighting the community’s desire for a development that better fits the character and needs of the neighborhood.
As the meeting approaches, community members are encouraged to attend and share their perspectives on the future of this proposed development.
