What started 10 years ago as a group of passionate Fullerton music lovers who knew the town they live in would embrace a Day of Music has turned into the largest Make Music Day event in the entire Southern California region on June 21. For the last few years, it has had more venues and performers than the cities of Orange, Anaheim, Long Beach, and Los Angeles combined. And over the years, it has become one of the city’s signature events that everyone looks forward to every year.
From 2015 until 2022, it was organized by its own non-profit with many dedicated volunteers keeping at it to make everyone smile. For 2023, the management of the event was taken over by the Fullerton Historic Theatre Foundation, whose mission is to restore the Fox Fullerton Theatre. This partnership is ideal, as the Fox will serve as a major venue for the Day of Music, gaining valuable exposure within the music industry for future projects. Call it “musical friend raising” if you need to call it something. There are several key volunteers who have been around since the beginning and are still helping steer the ship and keep Fullerton on top. For 2025, the team has put together more venues, more performers, more sponsors, and more cross-promotional partners than ever before. We have a great arrangement with Metrolink to promote the festival and Fullerton.
Gold Coast Tours in Brea has donated a bus to act as a free shuttle from the downtown museum plaza up to Hillcrest Park’s Big Bowl, and the City of Fullerton has been generous by waiving fees, running freeway billboards and utilizing staff time to assist the volunteers. All of this pushes the event and Fullerton forward into the public’s mind as the place for fun and neat cultural events.
But none of it would happen without the support, hard work and love that the event’s key volunteer committee members provide to keep it going and growing. They have literally been working on this for six months. Imagine all that goes into wrangling 60+ venues and 200+ performers and all the logistics, marketing, etc., that goes on.
If you see any of these fine individuals around town, consider taking a moment to thank them. I’m sure a few would appreciate the offer of a drink on the house!

I don’t see times here but did see the terrific centerfold map with times and place of each musical event in the mid-June print issue. So it’s 10am and continues all day.
