“Good Trouble: End ICE Terror” Event Calls Out Modern-Day Tyranny
In a powerful call to action that echoes the spirit of the Declaration of Independence, residents from across South Orange County will gather on Saturday, July 19, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Selva Road in Dana Point to protest the growing abuses of power by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The protest, themed “Good Trouble: End ICE Terror,” aims to highlight and oppose the militarization of immigration enforcement and the mistreatment of immigrant communities, including instances of masked, unidentified ICE agents forcibly detaining individuals without due process.
Inspired by the Founding Fathers’ denunciation of tyranny in 1776, one of the event organizers—who was born on the Fourth of July—draws a direct connection between the historical grievances listed in the Declaration of Independence and the injustices occurring today.
“Jefferson condemned the quartering of troops, the denial of jury trials, and the obstruction of immigration. If he were alive today, he would be appalled by what’s happening on our soil,” said Darcie Harris, Co-Chair of the Democratic Women of South Orange County’s (DWSOC) Rapid Response Team. “This is not the America he envisioned, and it’s our patriotic duty to speak out.”
DWSOC is joining Indivisible47 and sister Democratic clubs to organize a large-scale “good trouble” protest along a 30-mile stretch of the Pacific Coast Highway—from Seal Beach to Dana Point—answering John Lewis’s call to stand up when injustice arises, as silence is not an option.
