EKI Environment & Water, Inc. (EKI) has released its Monthly Status Report for June 2025 regarding the Soil Vapor Extraction (SVE) and In Situ Air Sparging (IAS) systems at the Former Chicago Musical Instruments Site located at 350 South Raymond Avenue in Fullerton.
During June, the SVE system continued to operate normally, extracting soil vapor from 29 wells. Routine monitoring occurred on June 6 and June 17, with soil vapor samples collected from various points in the treatment system. The analysis indicated a total volatile organic compound (VOC) concentration of 1,884 parts per billion (ppbv) in the blower system effluent, resulting in an estimated VOC mass removal rate of approximately 0.74 pounds per day, totaling around 22 pounds for the month. Results remained consistent with previous months, and emissions were within the permitted limits set by the South Coast Air Quality Management District.
Notably, several SVE wells were closed in June due to low VOC concentrations to concentrate efforts on other wells.
The IAS system was turned off in April 2023 to facilitate groundwater monitoring and has remained inactive for rebound testing. However, following a request from the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) to resume operations due to rising VOC levels, the IAS system was repaired and restarted on June 11, 2025. Currently, it is functioning effectively, injecting compressed air into 10 wells, though two wells are not operational due to maintenance issues.
