Providence St. Jude Medical Center to Host Free Esophageal Cancer Screening for Fullerton Fire Department on July 23

Novel EsoGuard Swallow Test Offers Life-Saving Early Detection

Recent research published in JAMA highlights a concerning rise in esophageal and gastrointestinal cancers. Firefighters are particularly vulnerable, with studies indicating they have a 62% higher risk of developing esophageal cancer. This risk is compounded by the recent spate of significant fires in Los Angeles. Click Here to read the study.

To address this issue, Providence St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton will host a free esophageal cancer screening for the Fullerton Fire Department on July 23. The event aims to promote early detection among first responders, who are often exposed to hazardous conditions.

The screening will utilize the non-invasive EsoGuard test, which involves swallowing a small device that is later extracted. This process takes about five to ten minutes, and the device will be sent for DNA analysis to determine the presence of pre-cancerous conditions.

Event Details:
– Date: Wednesday, July 23
– Time: 10:30 am to 12:30 pm
– Location: Providence St. Jude Medical Center – Erikson Education Center, 3rd Floor, Room 3, 101 East Valencia Mesa Dr., Fullerton, CA.
