A tragic accident on Thursday, August 7, resulted in the death of a scooter rider in Fullerton. At approximately 8:03 PM, officers from the Fullerton Police Department responded to reports of a collision at the intersection of West Malvern Avenue and Wesley Drive involving a motorcycle and a vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers found an adult male rider severely injured, lying in the eastbound lane of Malvern Avenue, near a black and gray Sym Scooter. Quick to act, police initiated CPR until emergency medical personnel from Fullerton Fire arrived on the scene and took over life-saving efforts. The rider was subsequently transported to a local trauma center, where he was pronounced dead by hospital staff.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the scooter rider was traveling west on W. Malvern Avenue when he collided with the driver’s side of a Volkswagen Taos. The impact resulted in the rider being ejected from the scooter. The driver of the Volkswagen remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Authorities have yet to determine if drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision. The identity of the deceased rider is expected to be released by the Orange County Coroner’s Office pending notification of next of kin.
The investigation is ongoing, and officials are urging anyone with information related to this incident to contact Fullerton Police Traffic Accident Investigator J. Munoz at (714) 738-6812 or jmunoz@fullertonpd.org. Tips can also be submitted anonymously via the Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1(855) TIP-OCCS or through their website at occrimestoppers.org.

I’d appreciate a little more detail on this incident, maybe in a follow up article; like, was the scooter driver wearing a helmet? So few teens and adults don’t wear a “brain bucket” when two-wheeling; whenever I see a kid with one on I complement them on it. Positive reinforcement, y’know? (The adults who don’t are past learning, save the hard way.)
Yes, he was wearing a helmet, but it was like the type of helmet that you wear for
regular bikes. I was there one of the first people to arrive at the scene. It was pretty gruesome.
Something that I don’t think I could ever forget.
I was walking up to the accident to see how I could help after telling my gf to call 911. I saw his leg twisted and his keys were clipped to his knee. I am assuming it was caused by the blunt force of the accident.
I tried to look for a pulse by checking his wrist and then his neck, but I didn’t feel it. I knew he was gone. His body was already dying. He started twitching, suddenly compulsive. Then the cops came and just started to perform CPR.
I cannot find a follow up to this story ….
