Spectrum has introduced a virtual American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting service at 20 stores across Los Angeles and Southern California, aimed at enhancing communication between Deaf customers and store specialists.
Customers can access the service by scanning a QR code in participating stores using their smartphones or tablets. This connects them to an interpreter who facilitates real-time conversations with store staff.
Steve Raymond, Vice President of Accessibility at Spectrum, emphasized the importance of this service for the large Deaf population in Southern California. “This is another example of our dedication to providing exceptional customer experiences by responding to feedback,” he stated.

Spectrum celebrates the launch of a virtual American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting service at the Inglewood Spectrum store alongside Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts Jr. and Assemblymember Tina McKinnor.
On August 12, a launch event was held at Spectrum’s flagship store in Inglewood, attended by local leaders, including Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts Jr. Representatives from the Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness (GLAD) were also present. During the event, Spectrum donated $10,000 to GLAD to support equal access for the Deaf community.
Spectrum partnered with Sorenson Communications to implement this service, which is also recognized for enhancing accessibility in other markets across the U.S. Paget Alves, CEO of Sorenson, praised the collaboration, noting its potential to expand communication accessibility for Deaf customers.
Mayor Butts commended Spectrum for its commitment to inclusivity, stating that the new service is essential for improving access to communication for the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community.
