The Biergarten at Old World Huntington Beach is set to host the 30th Annual Plum Fest on Sunday, August 24th. This cherished community event will celebrate all things plum with a day packed with entertainment, culinary delights, and activities suitable for families. The festival will be open from 12 PM to 8 PM, offering free admission and parking to ensure accessibility for all attendees.
Headlining this year’s festivities will be the German band Die Sauerkrauts, who will perform on the main stage from 1 PM to 6 PM. Known for their vibrant energy, the band promises to engage the audience with a blend of traditional melodies and contemporary sounds that reflect the spirit of Gemütlichkeit, or togetherness.
Children will have a special experience with the “Piraten Fest for Kids” event, scheduled from 3 PM to 4:30 PM. This segment will feature creative crafts, face painting, and a treasure hunt, all inspired by the adventurous tales of the legendary pirate Klaus Störtebecker.
“Plum Fest is not just a celebration of food and music; it’s a heartfelt tradition that honors the legacy of the Bischof family,” stated festival organizers.
Established in 1995 as a tribute to renowned baker Elly Schwarzer, who was famous for her Pflaumenkuchen or plum cake, the festival has become an enduring celebration of family and tradition.
The story behind the Plum Fest is deeply personal; Dolores, the daughter of Elly, cherished memories of her mother’s plum cake, especially poignant during World War II when they were separated. Following Elly’s passing, the Bischof family ensured that her beloved recipe would continue, collaborating with the bakers at Old World Bakery to preserve this treasured tradition for future generations.
Attendees can look forward to a variety of plum-inspired treats, including plum strudel, flamed plum crepes, and German donuts filled with plum jam, all prepared by the talented team at the Old World Bakery. Traditional festival fare such as chicken, brats, and hamburgers will also be available, complemented by folk dance performances and engaging activities for children, including bouncy houses and game booths.
As the community gears up for this festive occasion, organizers invite everyone to partake in the celebration, which honors not only the rich history of the Plum Fest but also the enduring bonds of family and tradition. With excitement building for an unforgettable day filled with music, laughter, and, of course, plums, the 30th Annual Plum Fest promises to be a remarkable event in Huntington Beach.
