The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at California State University, Fullerton, is set to host a free Retirement Housing Choices Workshop and Resource Fair on Saturday, October 4, from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Ruby Gerontology Center on the campus. This event aims to assist individuals who are approaching or currently in retirement with exploring various senior housing options.
As the population of older adults continues to grow, the workshop will address critical housing decisions. Attendees will learn about transforming existing homes to make them more age-friendly and will explore diverse retirement community options available in the Fullerton area, including age-restricted apartments and equity senior housing.
Orange County Supervisor Doug Chaffee will kick off the event with welcoming remarks. The day’s program will feature discussions on key topics such as “Aging with Intention: Taking Control of Your Future, Your Home, and Your Care” and AARP’s suggestions for seniors wishing to age in place. A special focus will also be placed on Accessory Dwelling Units, which can serve as housing solutions for seniors, caregivers, or even as a source of rental income.
Participants will hear firsthand experiences from a panel of OLLI members currently living in retirement communities, discussing the benefits, challenges, and lessons learned from their transitions. Organizers will offer a decision-making guide and cost comparisons to assist attendees in evaluating their options.
After a light lunch, participants will have the chance to meet with representatives from local retirement communities, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations. Confirmed exhibitors include the City of Fullerton, Council on Aging–Southern California, AARP, and the Orange County Office on Aging.
The workshop is free, and attendees will have access to complimentary parking and refreshments. However, advance registration is required through OLLI’s online system, with a waiting list to be established once the maximum capacity is reached. For those interested in attending, registration can be completed at http://tinyurl.com/OLLI-register.
