The Orange County Rescue Mission (OCRM) has issued an urgent call for donations of diapers and baby supplies to assist homeless families with young children throughout Orange County. The organization reports a critical shortage of these essential items, which are vital for the well-being of families in need.
The most pressing needs identified by OCRM include:
– Diapers in sizes 4, 5, and 6, with an emphasis on size 6.
– Pull-up diapers in all sizes, particularly 2T/3T and 4T/5T.
– Baby wipes.
These supplies are distributed daily at the Village of Hope, OCRM’s transitional living facility in Tustin, and throughout its network, which serves families, veterans, and individuals facing crisis situations.
As highlighted in the most recently released 2024 Point-in-Time Count, homelessness in Orange County has surged by 28% since 2022, with more than 7,300 individuals, including many families with children, currently experiencing homelessness. This alarming increase underscores the urgent necessity for essential resources to support families striving for stability and self-sufficiency.
“Diapers and wipes are not just necessities; they are lifelines for parents working to rebuild their lives,” said Bryan Crain, president of Orange County Rescue Mission. “For families who come to us in crisis, providing these basic items allows them to focus on healing, employment, and long-term housing stability.”
OCRM is appealing to community members to donate baby wipes and diapers to sustain its programs through 2025. Those interested in contributing can drop off donations at the Village of Hope, located at 1 Hope Drive in Tustin, California. The donation warehouse is open daily from 8 am to 5 pm, and individuals may also choose to order items online for delivery.
