Discover Nature with a Visit to the Arboretum and Botanical Garden at Cal State Fullerton

Visit the Arboretum and Botanical Garden at Cal State Fullerton

The Arboretum and Botanical Garden at Cal State Fullerton is a tranquil retreat from the bustle of daily life, offering a peaceful space to relax and reconnect with nature. It is open to the public daily from 9 am to 4 pm.

A Unique Botanical Experience

The Arboretum’s paths, gardens, and diverse plant collections take on a different character depending on the time of day and the season. For example, the Desert Garden is home to a variety of succulents and cacti that bask in the heat of summer but cast dramatic shadows in the evening as the sun sets, resembling a living sculpture park. The Rare Fruit Grove has interesting fruits ripening across the seasons, offering unique textures and shapes for visitors year-round. The Children’s Garden, a space full of giggles, can also provide a quiet space for children to learn the art of reflection during quieter moments in the Arboretum.

Level IV accreditation

In addition to its diverse plant collections, the Arboretum at Cal State Fullerton has been recognized with the highest level of accreditation, Level IV, by ArbNet, an organization that recognizes arboreta around the world. The accreditation signifies that the Arboretum is not only a public garden but also a scientific and conservation-focused institution that propagates, conserves, and safeguards its collections for conservation. The accreditation validates the dedication of the staff, volunteers, and community members who have contributed to the Arboretum since its establishment in 1972. The Arboretum is one of only three arboreta in California and one of 39 around the world to hold this distinction.

The Evening Stroll Event

The Evening Stroll is a special after-hours event offered at the Arboretum and Botanical Garden during the summer thatis designed to allow visitors to explore the gardens and beat the heat as the sun sets. This year’s last stroll event of the summer will be held on Friday, September 19, from 5  to 7 pm. It features live jazz music, an opportunity to taste some of the fruits harvested from the Rare Fruit Grove, fun activities, and an opportunity to wander the gardens in tranquility.

Whether you find a bench to sit on and watch the sky change color, or you prefer to listen to live music (with seating provided), the Evening Stroll is yours to shape. This event is open to the public and is the perfect way to spend a peaceful evening.

  1. Please be aware that starting last month parking at the Arboretum on the weekends is NO LONGER FREE and costs $6 and will soon go up to $12. During the week using Parkmobile parking it costs $4-$8 for 1-2 hrs. Entrance and parking at the Arboretum for 40 years use to be FREE to everyone, with a suggested donation of $5. This says general admission is now $10. So from being a free enjoyment open to everyone, especially to Fullerton families, CSUF has now monetized a visit to the Arboretum to a minimum of $14 a visit for most people. I was informed that the parking fees do not go directly to support the Arboretum and that even Arboretum volunteers now have to pay for parking. I will pass.
