Follow the Money on Prop 50

(See Contributors to YES & No campaigns Below)

Ballots for the California Special Election have begun to arrive through the mail for the Prop 50 question which seeks to allow temporary new congressional redistricting maps drawn up by state democrats to counter-balance gerrymandering in Texas that is expected to carve out five additional republican districts. If Prop 50 passes – redistricting in California will return to the independent redistricting commission in 2030.

District Lines are ordinarily redrawn every ten years after the nationwide census. The last census was taken in 2020, so lines are not expected to be redrawn until 2030. Facing record low polls, President Trump fears his unpopular policy agenda could be derailed and his administration could be ensnared in investigations if Democrats win back power in 2026.
Trump asked Texas GOP to redraw their congressional maps early this year to increase the odds more Republicans would be elected. After Texas agreed Governor Newsom and the CA Legislature put together Prop. 50.
The positive outcome of Proposition 50 will determine how Californians are represented in the U.S. House of Representatives and will balance out the consequences Nationwide of actions by Texas. Unlike most states, where legislators decide the congressional map, California uses an independent commission created by the voters — so Newsom must go back to the ballot to get voter permission for the plan to even the national voting field.
