Downtown Restaurant Partners with Fullerton College Art Department to Display Student Artwork at Día de los Muertos Celebration

Madero 1899, a restaurant offering traditional and contemporary Mexican-inspired cuisine, located at 111 N. Harbor Boulevard, will be hosting an event titled“Ritmos Del Corazon” on November 2, 2025. It’s a celebration of Día de los Muertos which will feature student works from the Fullerton College Art Department, and Resident Artist Diaz Road Designs. This will be the first year the Fullerton College Art Department has partnered with Madero 1899 to showcase student artwork themed around the traditional Mexican holiday reuniting and honoring beloved ancestors, family and friends.

“We have a partnership with the Lounge Group, which operates the Madero 1899, High Horse Saloon, Mickey’s Irish Pub and The District Lounge establishments in Fullerton,” Stephen Klippenstein, Art Department Chair and Graphic Design Program Lead within Fullerton College’s Fine Arts Division, said via email.

Leanna Forcucci, Event Manager for Lounge Group Consulting, said, “Art Walk started as a quarterly event where every participant is a different artist. We collaborated with Fullerton College this April as sort of a trial run to see how the partnership would work out, with hope that the college could participate in future events.”

Klippenstein said, “The Lounge Group reached out to see if we would be interested in featuring student art at quarterly events that they organize. We started small with an event in April, but we have an upcoming student art event on November 2 at Madero 1899 celebrating ‘Día de los Muertos’ and with this event, we have had the proper time to promote and hopefully have an amazing turnout.”

“We have been hosting the Ritmos Del Corazon quarterly event since January 2025,” explained Forcucci. “This is our first time having this in the fall and featuring the Dia de losMuertos theme. This is also the first year for partnering for this specific event, but Madero has a long history of partnering with and sponsoring the local Fullerton schools, colleges and non-profits.”

The restaurant’s Nov. 2nd event, which runs from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm, will include live music with Porque Si, face painting, an extended happy hour and an art show. There will also be a raffle with proceeds benefiting the Fullerton College Art Department.

This event is family friendly and interactive. All four Ritmos Del Corazon events havefeatured local resident artist, Mike Diaz,” said Forcucci. “We display artwork in the restaurant Madero 1899, where the Agave Room becomes the main hub for art displays. At the front, hostsprovide guests with an art walk map. Madero 1899 has always been really community driven andthis is a great way to partner with the Fullerton College community.”
