In a unanimous decision, the Orange County Board of Supervisors has approved grant applications and awards totaling $11,320,532.49. This funding package aims to bolster existing programs and launch new initiatives focused on public health and safety.
Of the total amount approved, $9,830,809.46 is allocated for ongoing programs, while $1,489,723.03 will support new public health initiatives and improvements to public safety.
Key components of the funding include a $1,183,836 grant awarded to the Health Care Agency (HCA) for its Local Oversight Program. This program is critical for managing the cleanup of petroleum leaks from underground storage tanks, covering essential costs such as staffing, operations, and travel.
Additionally, OC Public Works received two retroactive grant applications. One, amounting to $73,722,675, will fund the Measure M2 Comprehensive Transportation Funding Regional Capacity Program to complete the construction of Cow Camp Road. The second retroactive grant application of $85,857 will support the Measure M2 Comprehensive Transportation Funding Regional Traffic Signal Synchronization Program, facilitating traffic and street improvements at key intersections in Aliso Viejo, specifically Oso Parkway, Pacific Drive, and Glenwood Drive.
Further enhancing public safety, the Sheriff-Coroner’s office received a retroactive grant application for $1,250,000. This funding is directed toward the FY 2026 Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS) Grant Program. It aims to establish a real-time public safety monitoring system, which includes staff training, coordination with regional law enforcement, and continuous testing to ensure effective operations.
Vice Chair Katrina Foley emphasized the importance of this funding package, stating, “This funding package delivers nearly $9.8 million to strengthen existing programs and about $1.5 million for new public health and public safety initiatives. We remain committed to providing direct support for victims of crime, improving community well-being and quality of life, and funding critical transportation infrastructure that ensures residents across Orange County can travel safely and efficiently.”
