City of Fullerton Allocates $3 Million for Independence Park Revitalization Project

Following the successful completion of the Union Pacific Park and Trail projects, the City of Fullerton has announced a significant investment to revitalize Independence Park. The City Council formally approved the Independence Park Revitalization Project during the annual Operating and Capital Improvements Budget process.

The first phase of the revitalization is backed by approximately $3 million in funding from local, state, and county resources. This phase focuses on addressing urgent infrastructure and accessibility improvements within the park. Key plans include the construction of Fullerton’s first adaptive playground, new restroom facilities, upgrades to landscaping and irrigation, and renovations to the gymnasium.

City officials indicated that subsequent phases of the project will be implemented once additional funding sources become available, ensuring the revitalization can continue to meet the community’s needs.

In conjunction with this project, the City is developing a comprehensive Parks Master Plan. This long-range planning effort aims to guide future investments in parks, recreation facilities, and open spaces throughout Fullerton, with a focus on involving community stakeholders and gathering public input to shape priorities and policies.
