—Exhibit at Saddleback College and Pop-Up Exhibition in Placentia
In honor of Black History Month, the Orange County Community Arts Guild (OCAG) proudly presents “2%: A Celebration of Black Artistry,” a compelling exhibition at Saddleback College that highlights the voices, stories, and creative excellence of Black artists in Orange County, where Black residents make up just 2% of the population.
“Two percent is a statistic,” said Britt Samuels, founder of OCAG. “What you see here is a legacy.”
The exhibition will be on view from February 4 through May 11 at the Saddleback College Learning Resource Library (3rd Floor). It features photography, painting, and mixed media works that explore themes of identity, history, and lived experiences. Through profoundly personal and culturally significant perspectives, the exhibit invites viewers to engage, reflect, and celebrate the power of art through representation.
Featured artists include Samuels, Larissa Brown, Kaleeka Bond Quayle, Sola Saar, Kobina Wright, and Eesuu Orundida, whose work collectively speaks to resilience, heritage, and contemporary Black life in Orange County. Samuels and Brown, a member of the OCAG Board of Directors, curate the exhibition.
An opening reception will take place on February 6 at 6:00 pm, providing the public with an opportunity to meet the artists and experience the exhibition firsthand.
In addition to the Saddleback College exhibition, OCAG will host a one-day Pop-Up Exhibition titled “2%: A Celebration of Black Artistry” on February 27 from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm at FIT Planning Group, located at 550 W. Orangethorpe Avenue, Placentia. This pop-up exhibition will serve as an accessible, community-focused extension of the broader exhibition.
