Fullerton Invites Community Input on Solid Waste and Recycling Future

The City of Fullerton is taking steps to involve residents in shaping its solid waste and recycling program. Two community meetings are scheduled where attendees can learn about the forthcoming waste and recycling contract and engage with representatives from the three prospective service providers.

The first meeting will be held on Thursday, July 23rd, at the Fullerton Community Center, located at 340 W. Commonwealth Ave., from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. The format of this meeting will be open-house, allowing participants to drop in at their convenience within the scheduled timeframe.

The second opportunity for community engagement will take place on Tuesday, July 28th, at the Hunt Branch Library, situated at 201 S. Basque Ave., also from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, following the same open-house format.

Residents will have the chance to meet with representatives from the three prospective haulers: Republic Services, CR&R Environmental Services, and Valley Vista Services. This format allows for informal discussions where attendees can ask questions, gather information, and collect promotional materials.

City staff will also be present to address residents’ questions, gather feedback, and provide additional information. Community participation is encouraged, as local insights will play a crucial role in determining the future of waste management services in Fullerton.

For those unable to attend, the City is eager to hear comments, suggestions, and concerns via email at FullertonRFP@cityoffullerton.com or through written submissions placed in a lockbox at the City’s Environmental Services table. The lockbox will be accessible at the Community Center front desk outside of the meeting hours. Residents are reminded that the deadline for submissions is Friday, July 31st.

City officials express hope that the community will take advantage of these meetings to voice their opinions and help shape the future of waste and recycling services in Fullerton.

  1. Any council member who accepted campaign funds from any of the refuse services under consideration should recuse themselves from voting. Republic Services – is the trash hauler who helped create the issue of non-compliance of SB1383 that may result in the city of Fullerton being fined up to $10,000/day. And Cal-Recycle has the option to go back and fine the city of Fullerton for each day since the original SB 1383 compliance deadline. If Cal-Recycle went back only one year Fullerton taxpayers would owe $3,650,000.00 adding to the millions of debt already resulting in Fullerton’s problems in balancing their budget. The potential for Fullerton residents seeing increased fees, major cuts to resident services and increased pressure to vote to increase their taxes, may be the result.

  2. I believe the upcoming meetings should be hybrid meetings so those who cannot attend in person still have a chance to voice their opinions.
