The Fullerton and Santa Ana Armory homeless shelters will re-open beginning October 15 and remain open through April 15, 2020. The Armories will provide much-needed shelter to homeless individuals during the winter season. Each Armory can provide shelter for up to 200 people experiencing homelessness.
Meanwhile, 13 cities of North Orange County are working on opening two “navigation centers” (shelters with wraparound social services) in Buena Park and Placentia by December of this year, which will provide a total of 250 beds.
The county of Orange will spend $1.7 million for the operation of the Armories, and those who stay there will be allowed to stay an hour beyond the original 7am checkout time, to encourage more folks to use the shelters.
According to the last OC Point in Time Count, there are currently 308 unsheltered homeless people in Fullerton.
The Fullerton Armory is located at 400 S. Brookhurst Road.
