The recent Israeli destruction of Al Shifa hospital and the targeted killing of World Kitchen humanitarians and stopping food, water, fuel, medicine to reach starving Palestinians are obvious crimes. How can we be letting this happen?
Agreed, with a caveat: Why aren’t Palestinians and Muslims at large condemning the Oct. 7 massacre executed by Hamas? Israel lost 1,200 civilians; dozens of others were kidnapped. I attended a pro-Palestine rally at Imperial Highway and Brea Boulevard in Brea and asked the obvious question. Twice, the question was met with, “We don’t condone the attack, but…”
“Do you condemn it?” They wouldn’t go that far, which is part of the problem. The narrative that has formed seems to omit the fact that Israel was sucker-punched by Hamas.
If the they’re going to negotiate a cease-fire, peace, a two-state solution, Oct. 7 should be on the table. And media should include it in all updates, as critical context in this ongoing crisis.
“Israel was sucker-punched by Hamas” after the Zionist settler-colonial project has engaged in terrorism against the Palestinian people for 75 years. October 7 means essentially nothing in the broader scale of mass destruction and devastation caused by the Zionist regime.
