Evan Parks, President of Good Hands for One, made the following presentation to the city council on April 16.
“Today, I want to introduce our organization officially. We are so proud to be given the platform to share what we have done up to this point. I want to explain the Good Hands for One organization briefly.
“Created in early 2013, Good Hands for One is a nonprofit organization consisting of eager middle and high school volunteers dedicated to providing equal learning opportunities to underprivileged youth. For the past 11 years, we have provided free tutoring services in mathematics to elementary students, grades two through six, from Title One elementary schools at the Fullerton Public Library and briefly online during the COVID season.
“Thanks to the support of the Fullerton Public Library, parents, and even the Council, we have seen the growth and development of hundreds of younger children within math and as members of this community. We also extended our math program and provided tutoring services for English during the summers on weekdays. Currently, we have over 40 tutors who dedicate their time every Saturday morning and over 40 students who seek attendance in mathematics tutoring. We have served over 100 students during the past 11 years.
“Now that we are in a post-pandemic era, our organization has held in-person sessions at the Fullerton Public Library since the end of 2023. Good Hands for One established its place at the Osborne Auditorium. However, starting in early 2024, Good Hands for One is now set up on the second level of the library from 11:30 to 1 pm on Saturdays. By the end of the year, our organization hopes to recruit new passionate high school and middle school student tutors across the Fullerton area. Our student interest is increasing, and Good Hands for One wants to ensure every student in the program will be matched with an available tutor.”
