American Federation of Government Employees and the California Alliance for Retired Americans Host a Demonstration in Anaheim
To mark Social Security’s 89th birthday, the American Federation of Government Employees Council 220 and the California Alliance for Retired Americans will celebrate and highlight the importance of access to Social Security and benefit solvency with a non-disruptive demonstration.
Many members of Congress have suggested either cutting Social Security benefits or raising the retirement age to “fix” the program. Meanwhile, budget cuts have reduced the number of employees available to help current and future beneficiaries in the timely manner they deserve. Congress must “fund it to fix it” to provide for a Social Security Administration capable of serving the millions of Americans who rely on its services.
WHO: American Federation of Government Employees Council 220 & California Alliance for Retired Americans
WHAT: The American Federation of Government Employees Council 220, California Alliance for Retired Americans, and community members are gathering to celebrate Social Security’s 89th birthday and demand Congress support SSA workers. Without increased funding, Social Security will continue to be understaffed and unable to provide timely assistance and access to families’ earned benefits. To celebrate another year of Social Security, Congress must “fund it to fix it.”
