Senator Thomas J. Umberg (D-Santa Ana), Chair of the California Senate Judiciary Committee, released a heartfelt statement following the passing of former President James Earl Carter, Jr., who died yesterday at the age of 100.
“Jimmy Carter was a great man – who was also a president,” Umberg remarked.
He highlighted Carter’s lifelong commitment to helping those in need, particularly through the couple’s work with Habitat for Humanity.
“His devotion to his wife and family, his naval service, his deep faith, and humility as a Sunday School teacher make him a role model for all of us in public service,” Umberg continued.
Umberg emphasized that Carter’s exemplary character sets a standard for elected leaders, calling his legacy a vital lesson in integrity and compassion. Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, is remembered not only for his distinguished political career but also as the country’s longest-living former leader.
