Item #17: The discussion pertains to the potential re-location of the Pooch Park currently located at the Hunt Library. Finding a suitable alternative has proven challenging, and user feedback from the dog park users suggests a preference to remain at the current site. Staff is seeking direction on this matter, leaning toward maintaining the existing location.
Item #18: A report on homelessness is set to be presented. It’s noted to detail the city’s actions. More information can be found here: https://fullerton.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx.
Item #19: This item involves reorganizing the Parks and Recreation Commission. The proposal is to reduce the number of members to five and to schedule meetings every other month. This recommendation follows an earlier discussion by the Committee on January 7. They have suggested appointing five members by the Council and dissolving the Cultural Arts Subcommittee, with its responsibilities being transferred to the commission.
The Council also decided that the ATC may continue with monthly meetings unless cancellations occur, a change from the previous proposal for quarterly meetings. In the past year, staff canceled seven meetings.
Additionally, during the last Council meeting, over 40 individuals spoke regarding the WOW issue, with 33 expressing support for its continuation, 65 businesses writing letters of support, and a petition with over 2000 signatures also in support of keeping the Walk on Wilshire closed to vehicular traffic—approximately 7 in favor of allowing vehicle access. The outcome required three votes to keep it open, but only four members were present, leading to its closure.
Lastly, residents near Cannon, Sheppard, Frances, and Dorothy Drive can expect water main replacements between March and July. Access to Luanne will remain open where possible, with hopes that this will lead to the repaving of streets needing repairs.
