CSUF Introduces Weekend Parking Policy

California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) has announced a controversial new parking policy that will take effect on August 25, 2025. The upcoming changes will end free parking on campus during weekends and Friday evenings.

Starting at $6 on Saturdays and Sundays, the parking fee is expected to escalate to $12 by 2027. Critics argue that this increase represents not just a financial burden but also a shift in the university’s priorities, suggesting that CSUF is placing profit above accessibility and community engagement.

For years, CSUF has been seen as a predominately unwelcoming place by some, and these new fees may compound that perception. Many people frequent the campus for tourism, library access, and university events, all of which contribute to a vibrant community atmosphere. However, the prospect of weekend parking fees may deter potential visitors who worry about the costs and complexities associated with navigating the parking payment.

Interestingly, despite high-demand events that often fill parking lots, many spaces remain empty during off-peak times. This raises questions about the necessity of implementing such fees. Some community members believe that a more balanced approach, such as charging for parking during high-demand events while keeping other areas free, could have been a better solution.

The planned policy has further strained the relationship between CSUF and its neighboring communities.

CSUF encourages those seeking more information about the new parking fees to reach out to Parking and Transportation Services: call (657) 278-3082 or email
parking@fullerton.edu or visit the university’s website: https://parking.fullerton.edu/24-hour/. As the community braces for these changes, many are left questioning whether this shift will truly benefit anyone other than the university’s bottom line.
