With fire season now a year-round concern, the City of Fullerton Fire Department encourages everyone to stay prepared and proactive. Taking small steps today can make a big difference in protecting your home and loved ones.
Harden Your Home Against Wildfire Risk:
- Clear debris from around the base of your home.
- Trim trees so branches don’t touch or hang over your roof.
- Clean gutters and roof valleys where dry leaves and debris can collect.
- Maintain a safe space around grills and barbecues—keep at least a 3-foot buffer from plants or flammable materials.
- Remove dead vegetation, such as dry branches, limbs, and palm fronds, which can quickly ignite.
Build Your Emergency Kit:
A basic emergency kit should include:
- Non-perishable food and water (enough for at least 3 days)
- Prescription medications and essential medical supplies
- Copies of important documents and personal IDs
- Cash in small bills
- Flashlights, batteries, and a phone charger or power bank
Have a Plan—And Share It:
Whether you’re at home, at work, or out in the community, make sure you and your loved ones know what to do in an emergency:
- Identify multiple emergency exits wherever you are.
- Create an evacuation plan and practice it with your family.
- Designate a meeting location in case you get separated from friends, family, or coworkers.
Preparedness saves lives. Take time today to plan, prepare, and protect.
