In the wake of a tragic incident involving members of California State University, Fullerton’s women’s soccer team, two separate GoFundMe campaigns have been initiated to support the families of critically injured players Lauren Turner and Ashlyn Gwynn. Both athletes remain in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after being struck by a box truck while riding scooters on September 27.
Colleen Nettekoven and Shelly Gwynn are organizing the initiatives on behalf of the players’ families, Matthew Gwynn and Christopher Turner. The accident has left both Lauren and Ashlyn with severe head trauma, prompting an outpouring of support from the community as their loved ones rally for their recovery.
“Lauren is a beautiful, bright, strong, and determined young woman whose love for soccer and her community is evident in all she does,” said a family representative in a heartfelt statement. The fundraiser aims to alleviate the financial burden of medical expenses, ongoing care, and travel costs for family members who wish to stay by their sides during this difficult time. The campaign has quickly garnered support, with donors emphasizing the need for prayers and community solidarity. “Every donation, share, and prayer means the world to our family,” they stated.
Ashlyn Gwynn, affectionately known as “Ashy,” is celebrated for her vibrant personality and positive impact on those around her. Like Turner, she is currently facing significant medical challenges following the accident. Her family has reached out to the community for support to help cover mounting medical bills linked to her recovery.
“Ashlyn has the brightest and happiest personality,” her family expressed, highlighting both her contributions on and off the soccer field. Supporters have been encouraged not only to contribute financially but also to send prayers and positive thoughts for Ashlyn’s swift recovery.

Both campaigns are affiliated with CSUF Athletics, ensuring that all funds raised will directly benefit the families in their time of need. The strong response from the community underscores the deep connections within the Cal State Fullerton family as they unite to support their teammates in this challenging time.
