The Fullerton City Council has officially canceled its meeting originally scheduled for May 19, delaying discussion on several major public issues facing the city. Among the postponed agenda items were information related to the city’s Fiscal Audit on Accounting Error Findings, proposed amendments involving tobacco-related regulations and potential litigation connected to a housing development proposal.
The canceled meeting had been expected to address continuing concerns surrounding the city’s financial oversight and accounting issues, which have become part of broader discussions about Fullerton’s budget challenges and fiscal sustainability planning in the face of a $13.7 million deficit.
Also delayed was a public hearing regarding proposed changes to municipal regulations affecting businesses that sell tobacco products. The proposed ordinance changes were expected to be reviewed publicly by council members and residents during the meeting.
In addition, the council was scheduled to discuss issues tied to a controversial housing development proposal involving 111 West Hermosa Drive, including the possibility of litigation connected to prior city actions involving the project. The postponement comes as Fullerton continues to face mounting pressure related to state housing mandates, development requirements and long-term infrastructure and financial planning.
The May 19 cancellation is the latest in a series of canceled meetings across various city commissions, committees and council bodies in recent months.
According to city officials, Mayor Jung, MPT Dunlap and CM Valencia are not available. I understand two are out of state that day, and one is unavailable for medical reasons. Under California law, public meetings may be canceled for several reasons, including scheduling conflicts, lack of agenda items or quorum-related issues.
Residents can review future meeting schedules and updated agendas through the city’s public meetings portal.
