In honor of the United States’ 250th birthday, the city of Fullerton is set to commemorate Memorial Day with a special ceremony at Loma Vista Memorial Park. The event will take place on Monday, May 25, at 10 am and is open to the public at no cost.
This year’s theme, “USA 250 Years,” celebrates the country’s rich history and pays tribute to its veterans. Attendees can expect a moving program featuring patriotic music, speeches from esteemed military speakers, and moments of solemn remembrance for those who have served. Organizers expect over 1,000 citizens to attend the ceremony, which is sponsored by the nonprofit American Veterans Memorial Association, the City of Fullerton, and Loma Vista Memorial Park.
Local officials encourage all members of the community, especially veterans and their families, to participate in this patriotic event. The outdoor venue offers ample seating, or guests are welcome to bring their own chairs.
In preparation for the ceremony, the community is called upon to assist in multiple ways. Volunteers are needed on Saturday, May 23, from 8 to 10 am to place American flags on the graves of more than 4,400 veterans at the park. Individuals, families, and groups are encouraged to join the effort, which includes receiving a specific section of the cemetery and about 30 flags to honor those interred there. Light refreshments will be provided.
Additionally, volunteers are sought for flag removal on Tuesday morning, May 26, from 7 to 9 am, and help is needed at the Fullerton Community Center to clean and iron the flags. Organizers ask that no small children attend the cleaning event, and those with pick-up trucks are requested to assist on Tuesday morning.
Join the Fullerton community in this heartfelt tribute as they honor the sacrifices of veterans throughout history and celebrate a milestone year for the nation.
