Hundreds Gather in Downtown Fullerton on July 1 to Watch U.S. Advance in World Cup

Hundreds of soccer fans packed Wilshire Avenue in downtown Fullerton on Wednesday night to watch the United States defeat Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0 in the FIFA World Cup Round of 32, advancing to the tournament’s Round of 16.

The free community viewing party transformed the former Walk on Wilshire corridor, just west of Harbor Boulevard, into an outdoor fan zone. Two large video screens broadcast the match as families, friends, and soccer supporters gathered to cheer on the U.S. Men’s National Team.

Photos from the event showed a festive, family-oriented atmosphere, with children playing, parents relaxing in lawn chairs, and spectators filling the pedestrian-friendly street throughout the evening. The crowd erupted in celebration after each U.S. goal, creating one of the largest public gatherings in downtown Fullerton since the World Cup began.

The watch party is part of the city’s Soccer Fest series, which has drawn growing crowds during the 2026 FIFA World Cup and highlighted downtown Fullerton as a community destination for residents and visitors alike. Organizers have promoted the events as free, family-friendly opportunities to experience the excitement of the tournament together.

With the victory, the United States advances to face Belgium in the Round of 16 as the country’s World Cup run continues.
